(Updated January 1, 2024)

I help enthusiastic guitar, bass, and piano students build fundamental music skills by exploring songs across all styles that resonate with them.

I will teach students the language of music in a positive and enthusiastic environment. I will ensure that the Student receives quality musical instruction that empowers them according to their interests and goals. I will tailor the curriculum to match each student's specific learning needs.

I will maintain professionalism, integrity, and transparency in all communications with you. I keep my equipment and technology up to date so that lessons flow smoothly. Additionally, I make it a point to continuously develop my own expertise to share with students and encourage them that there is always something new to learn.

Students agree to log in/be ready for each lesson punctually, well-prepared, and with their assignment books, music, and instrument. To make good progress, daily quality practice is not only encouraged, but essential. Please ask questions about any home assignments so that the student and parents can completely understand the assignments and goals.

The Student is expected to be engaged and respectful during lessons so that they get the best results. Outside of lesson time, it is the Student’s responsibility throughout the rest of the week to practice diligently using the instruction and feedback they receive during lessons. I will often give tips on effective practice habits, but I also encourage Parents/Guardians (if applicable) to assist the Student in their efforts by reminding them to practice throughout the week as well.

Parents: If something is happening at home or school that is affecting your child and may be affecting their music studies, or even if you feel it would help improve their experience, please let me know. The more information I have, the more I can be sensitive to the needs of your child.

*Please note that tuition reserves the weekly time slot but may not directly correlate with lessons received if the student does not attend the scheduled lesson times.

I currently offer a few lesson packages that vary in format and time slot duration. The Student/family may choose their desired lesson package based on recommendations given during our initial consultation.

Tuition is a flat rate for each month and includes lessons scheduled in that month based on the studio calendar. Invoices reflecting this rate will be sent by the 25th of the month prior for all enrolled students.

In the case that there is a 5th weekly lesson in the month, this has been factored into the flat-rate tuition. Pre-planned absences and holiday breaks have also been factored into the rate and will be communicated well in advance.

Payment Schedule & Methods

Payment is due on the 1st of every month. Payment can be made electronically by credit/debit card directly from the monthly invoice for Online or In-Person lessons, and is the preferred payment method. Payments can be set to Auto Pay via Stripe if desired for your convenience.

Payment via check is also accepted for In-Person lessons only.

Late Fees and Cancellation Fees

Payment received after the due date is subject to a $10 late fee. Recurring late payments may result in termination of the student’s enrollment.

If insufficient notice of pausing or ending enrollment is given, there is a 50% cancellation fee. (See the “Pausing or Terminating Enrollment” section below.)

Lessons are held weekly via Zoom video call during the Student’s allotted time slot. Please be sure to have access to 1) reliable internet connection and 2) a computer/laptop, tablet, or smartphone with both camera and microphone capabilities when logging into the virtual studio for lessons.

In addition, the Student should plan to attend lessons from a quiet area with a suitable chair. Following these guidelines will allow the Student to have the most productive and rewarding online lesson experience possible.

For youth students in my local area who prefer it, I offer in-person lessons at the Student’s home. In-person lessons are also held weekly during the scheduled time, and must take place in an indoor area of the home that is free from distractions (such as toys, video games/gadgets, etc.).

I love pets! However, during lesson time all animals must also be kept away from the lesson area to minimize distraction.

If you are running late for any reason, please call or text me as soon as possible. Your lesson time will not be extended if you are late, and you will still be charged the full amount for that lesson.

Especially in the online lesson format, technical difficulties may occur occasionally. With that said, I will do what I can to adjust accordingly if notified right away; I may be able to extend a lesson slightly to account for this, but it is not always guaranteed. Regardless, in the event of technical difficulties I will do everything I can to make the most of each lesson; whenever possible, I will make up for lost lesson time.

If I am running late for any reason, I will notify you as soon as possible and make up the full lesson time for you.

If you need to cancel a lesson for any reason, please notify at least 24 hours in advance to receive a make-up credit. Make-up credits must be redeemed for a lesson within 30 days of the cancelled lesson unless otherwise agreed upon in writing. The sooner in advance I am notified, the higher probability I can schedule a make-up lesson within the month. (Local students: Make-up options may be offered in-person or online, subject to availability.)

Planned vacations or other conflicts communicated far in advance (at least 2-4 weeks' notice) qualify for a make-up credit that may be redeemed ahead of the student's planned absence if my schedule allows.

Lessons cancelled or missed with less than 24 hours’ notice will not be provided a makeup lesson.

Lessons cancelled by me will be given as much notice as possible and will be rescheduled within 30 days. In the event of illness or emergency, including dangerous weather-related road conditions, I may cancel up to two (2) lessons within a calendar year without giving make-up credits. This has already been factored into the studio calendar and tuition rates.

Makeup lessons do not count as credit for the next month’s tuition. Monthly invoices are based on the number of lessons the studio schedules within the calendar year and will not be altered.

Each Student must have their own instrument to use for lessons, as well as a pencil and notebook/paper ready in case they need to take notes during a lesson. Piano students must have access to a suitable keyboard at home. Guitar/bass students must have their own guitar/bass and (if applicable) amplifier and instrument cable. Items that are recommended for guitar/bass students (but not required to begin lessons) include a tuner, music stand, guitar strap, picks, and a capo.

I provide some instruction materials such as transcriptions, song sheets, and worksheets. However, I may also assign a required method book or similar resources on occasion for the Student to purchase and use as part of the lesson curriculum.

Each student/family is responsible for purchasing the required resources for lessons. The student will be expected to have the materials no later than two weeks after the materials have been assigned. Advance notice will be provided whenever possible.

When students enroll, they are reserving their place and chosen time slot in the studio for the entire month, and every subsequent month they continue paying tuition. Changes to weekly schedules may be made on a case-by-case basis each month, following the attendance policy outlined above.

Pausing or Terminating Enrollment

If the Student/family decides to pause or terminate lessons at any time, tuition for the remainder of that month still applies.

If the Student/family gives notice before the invoice is sent for the following month, no additional fees will apply.

If notice is given after the invoice date but before the tuition due date, the Student/family will be subject to a cancellation fee equal to 50% of their monthly tuition.

However, if notice is given on or after the tuition due date, the Student/parent must pay the full tuition fee for the month (plus any applicable late fees) regardless of whether the Student attends lessons thereafter.

Examples of this policy are as follows:

Per studio policy, December tuition is due on Dec. 1st and the invoice will be sent on November 24th (7 days before tuition is due). Let’s say you’re enrolled in 30-min lessons, but are planning to pause lessons for December (or end enrollment altogether).

  • If you notify me on or before Nov. 23rd (before the December invoice is sent), we will finish the month with lessons as scheduled and you will not be charged December tuition.

  • If you notify me on Nov. 24th (after the invoice is sent, but before the tuition due date of Dec. 1st), you will be charged a cancellation fee equal to 50% of your monthly tuition fee.

  • If you notify me on or after Dec. 1st, you will be charged the full amount of December tuition.

From time to time, I use photos and short videos of my students around the studio, on the studio website, or in social media posts. These videos and posts are encouraging to other students and helpful to other teachers. If you do not want your child's image(s) to be used, please let me know. In general, the students love to see their pictures and videos on my website or around the studio. They find it motivating and exciting to think that others want to know what they are learning. The students are identified only by first name.

Should there be any updates to this policy, they will be communicated promptly and clearly to you.

Any exceptions to this policy are on a case-by-case basis, and MUST be communicated clearly and agreed upon by both the Student/Parent and myself.

By enrolling and paying tuition for Allysia Razon’s studio, Razon Music Company, I certify that I understand and agree to the studio policies.
